Activities

The Friends of the Botanic Gardens arrange a number of regular activities for their members and the general public.

These include:

  • A Horticultural and Conservation Information Hub with the Canterbury Horticultural Society to answer questions about gardening, plants and conservation. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 1-4 pm, Old Information Centre.
  • Special interest talks and tours of the Gardens each month. See News and Events for more information.
  • Special tours for groups by arrangement. Email friendsofthegardens@gmail.com if you would like to arrange special tour for your group.
  • Volunteer guides, who provide daily walking tours from September to April of the Gardens starting from the Canterbury Museum entrance. Volunteer guides receive training and attend regular development sessions.
  • Propagation group — teams of volunteers work in the Friends' glasshouse producing plants that are sold daily at the plant stand (Armagh Street entrance, outside of the old Information Centre) and at seasonal plant sales.
